NP here, who had the same thought. BSC will get an excellent player a lot further, if those are the two clubs you are talking about.

I thought BSC had mlsnext?

But that may not currently be an option for that player.

Right but OP's description of a brand new club that is hoping to get an MLSnext team doesn't seem like Bethesda.

Good point; I misread the original BSC post. I think the choices are Paragon vs Achilles or Arlington.

My sons old team recently recruited him to come back and play on their MLSnext team. We've been told by many that it would be foolish to pass it up since they only pick about 18 to 20 kids per age pool. Our dilemma is the old club is more concerned about recruiting the best players instead of developing the players they have. They will move players down to take the next best kid. The new club is pretty loyal to their players and focuses on developing the kids. Who would you go with? Trying to make the best decision for our sons future.
Thanks

Go where he plays the most. You know your son best. If he is a blue chipper, take him to the most competitive team

What is a blue chipper?

A highly regarded athlete. But really at 13 go to the highest level Virginia where they play at least 40 - 60 mins

My kid is younger than yours, and I'm new at this. My gut is that at U13, you want him on the team that's best at development, not the team that has the best league. If he was 16, and being seen by college coaches was a top priority, then I'd say something different.

If the old team doesn't develop players and instead replaces them, then it seems like the best approach if he wants to be on an MLSnext team at 16 is to stay on the team that develops players well, and then either that team will also become MLSnext, or he'll get another offer, and be one of those kids that replaces less well developed players.

But, like I said, I am very new at this.

My son played for a travel soccer club last year that is fairly new but definitely made some waves in the soccer world. They are currently EDP looking to become MLSnext.
