I'm confused now - do or do not middle school grades count in HS GPA. There seems to be some on here thinking they do, and some who don't.

Yes you can drop the credit and grade. In this instance the requirement is 4 years of foreign language and my kid will have that because they are on year 5 this year with AP French. So even if they don’t take another year in 12th they will have 4 years of HS French.

100%. What is the point of this post? Your child is perfect and will have zero issues getting acceptances at great schools. Leave this forum to us that have legitimate questions like my 3.3 student! Your 4.0 student is probably great so why are you worrying?

HS level courses do count towards your HS GPA, even if taken in middle school. Foreign languages, math starting at Algebra, and World Geography (in APS). Plus some other electives like computer science I think.

OP here. Relax people! Not trying to send any message to my kid. I don’t care if they got a B. But the option is there to take it off and it may be worth it to do that depending on where they decide they want to go to college. That’s all. Thx.

Woah. My oldest is going into 7th grade. I wasn't even going to start worrying about anything until HS. Do colleges look at MS grades? And if so, why in the name of god would they do that???

In a nutshell, this is why so many kids (and DCUM has more than their share because of parents on this forum) are stressed to the max.

I would ask your kid's school counselor if dropping the French 2 grade would look odd. I don't see why this has to be a big problem or some statement about how overcompetitive you are, the message you are sending, blah blah blah. Why wouldn't you drop the B+, if it would raise the GPA? That just seems like common sense. I would think the counselor would be affirmatively recommending this to students in this position.

For your kid, I would not worry about it. If your had other B's in high school and was worried about meeting a minimal GPA requirement for a state college (e.g., to be in a top 10% of his class), I would consider it. Most highly competitive schools are going to strip out middle school and non-academic grades anyway to redetermine your kids GPA.

Please don't pursue this.

I agree, that it sends an unhealthy message to your son.

Kids who get their first low grade in college (and a B+ is not even a low grade) sometimes fall apart.

Teach him that the goal is doing his best. And you are proud of him when he does that.

My son has straight A’s and a 4.2 GPA (with AP extra point) in all HS classes. However he got one B+ in 8th grade French 2. If he drops the grade/credit he will still have 4 (maybe 5) years of French including one year of AP. Would it be weird that his transcript would be missing French 2? Would it be worth it for this one small GPA bump?
