The only downsides are public schools that have had some troubles (there are two ESes, I'm not sure that there's any meaningful difference but Thomas Stone has had some leadership churn as I understand it), the exodus of high achieving and more affluent students from the middle and high schools, and high property taxes related to our silly and dysfunctional "city" government.
The new restaurant (Pennyroyal Station) and opening soon wine bar (Era) are great amenities and I really hope they make it. Glut is an institution and is beloved by many. Joe's is another great community force.

I think it's an oasis from the DC bubble, yet still next to DC. Younger families, people are very friendly, not at all pretentious, very social place without people getting into you business, there's no "keep up w/ your neighbor" jive if that's what you are getting at.
