Church youth group

I would stay hyper local. That’s the only way he’s likely to meet anyone he has a chance to see again. If he likes gaming see if there are any game stores that have events, or sign him up for a skateboarding class.

A summer job might be an option - local pool or community center, if they are hiring his age. Here they are desperate so will.

It's a tough age/time/situation, OP. I have a similar teen.

My other teen got a job at 15 1/2.... and while she isn't the most social kid and doesn't generally hang out with anyone outside of school (which made DL really tough).... having a job was/is really good for her. It puts her in a position in public, and she has some social interaction with other teen employees. This year may be a wash for you (as it is for my 14 yr old), but next year, he knows he needs to get a job. Sitting at home in front of the computer all day is not going to cut it next year.

Whether he works at Chik Fil A or a waterpark, or a volunteer counselor at a day camp or even a volunteer gig at a food bank... it puts kids in a position of social interaction.

At this point, it's on the kid to make friends (or not).

His best bet for this summer might be a day camp related to computer coding or film making or something that is academic for teens. Just get him out of the house and then you'll be into the new school year.

I'm sorry OP your son has no friends at school. Can he join a few groups next year, like a sports team or academic club?

I don't have a teen. But if he volunteers with other teens, maybe at a camp, that might work. Or neighborhood pool, or place of worship.

Do kids not hang out at malls, restaurants, and parks anymore? I must be getting old

Where do you live? This is going to vary based on location. By us, none of them that age hang out at the local pool. They go to town and hang out all day at the fast food places and tables outdoors (Chipotle, Starbucks, etc), or at least that’s what I’m told.

Gym at neighborhood rec center if he is athletic

Invite a (school, sports?) friend to Dave & Busters, amusemt park or just to hang out at the house.

Good suggestion. Unfortunately we don't. But I could try a public pool?

My immature 15 year old has no friends. He's a bit awkward, ans goes to a private school in MD.

We are now finding that he doesn't have anyone to hang out with during the summer. He's a real social kid and misses being around kids his own age.

Any suggestions for where he could go to meet kids in the area?
