If you own a luxury car last 3-4 years old, it’s not really luxury anymore.

What do you drive now and how much did you spend? You could get a second hand luxury Audi A6, Mercedes E class, or BMW 5 series for $25k-$30k. You could drive a few before you hit the $70k budget and who’s says you have to wait. Unfortunately those cars are pretty ordinary around here so there is no reason to wait for HS. If you buy a fun vintage car than that’s a different story.

Just remember, your kids (if anything like mine) will walk all over the seats in soccer cleats, and otherwise destroy it!! Later in life is better for those white leather seats! (I drive nice cars, but this limits my choices a bit)

I’m very financially conservative saving 25 to 33 percent of my gross income for retirement. However I want to own a luxury car at least once in my life. My plan was for once the kids are out of college to do the splurge, but I’m wondering when in life would I get the most out of a luxury car. I’m currently in my early 30s. I’ve heard some people say once you get a nice car there is no going back to normal cars. So if I only want to buy one luxury car in my life what age should I do it? Does it matter what age my kids are? Figure they might like their dad driving up in a nice car while they are in HS.

By luxury I mean around 70k. Or about a third of my income.
