This. My son got his first job and started a month ago. The country club offered them a bonus if they could recruit their friends.

Non seasonal places would probably prefer adults (see other threads about flaky teens) but may take a teen who wants part time hours through the school year.
Is he telling these places he is just looking for summer? That's going to be hard to find at this point.

He is submitting a resume with his online applications that has an objective that specifically states that he is looking for a summer position and wants to continue through through the coming school year.

that's the problem, have him do the same thing in person

How long has it been? It often takes them 2 weeks to process the inocming applications and call people back.

Dishwashing, busing tables still a restaurant, movie theaters—the less desirable the job the more likely he is to get hired

Are you trying stores? Like TJ Maxx, Safeway?

In a normal years this is true but this year places are having a hard time finding bodies. In my area (MD suburbs) kids are having no problem finding 13-15 an hour. Focus on summer businesses like ice cream, mini golf, pools (can work other jobs then life guard)..mabe movie theatres just opening.

He was never on a swim team, so that’s not an option

He doesn't need to have been on a swim team. My kids work as lifeguards and are the only 2 on the staff that were ever on swim team. Can he swim 4 laps of the pool? tread water for 2 min? Then he can do get certified.

I don’t know. He can swim, but where we live, you only have access to a pool at all if you pay 1k per year for a membership so we know all the kids that grew up going to the pools and only they could be on the swim teams and now they all have the lifeguard jobs at the pools they grew up at. It’s a northern VA problem, I guess. Regardless, by the time he were to go through lifeguard training and certification and find a job the summer would be over.

Summer camps, country clubs, pools, food service. Try typing "16-year-old" and your zip code into Indeed.

Everywhere is hiring, nowhere is calling. He has been going around to places, asking in person, they tell him they are hiring and to apply on the website, and they never call. (These are food, coffee, smoothie type places that definitely hire under 18).
Any tips for places that actually hire teens for their first job?
