My DD likes to wear skirts - both full length and mini. Cropped wide tee with skirts.

Good advice to wait to buy most until your daughter starts school and sees what others are wearing, BUT she needs clothes for the first week at least. I have sons but could easily tell you what “many” boys in middle school wear (athletic shorts and T-shirts, cannot go wrong with Nike or Under Armour brands), so I am surprised parents of girls can’t give some initial guidance. Parents of middle school girls, please help this new student fit in!

Unless she’s a super secure, knows-herself girl (which is so unlikely at her age) let her see what the other girls are wearing at her school and let her decide.

Look at Nordstrom too. We have the same issue as our daughter is small but more mature taste than graphic tees, jeggings, etc for 8 yo.

Thank you. Abercrombie might work. I noticed (bought a pair of Jeans) that their sizes are not too big. Another issue is that she is tiny, and I have to buy here 2 sizes smaller than she is which affects her style because she is dressed like 8-9 year old and not 11.

Ok, ok thank you. OP here. Good point to buy a little and see what's everyone is wearing. For someone who asked, because she wore uniform so she does not have weekend.clothes apart from couple of shorts and t shirts, and a summer dress. She does not like folding clothes and putting things away so having a minimal wardrobe makes it manageable for her.

Interesting, just moved here from UK and bunch of girls there wear all sorts of dresses (typically longer) and skirts. And of course jeans etc.

Leggings and t shirt is so boring (I know I know it is not for me to wear)

I have a son starting 6th grade in the fall. Shorts and tee shorts - boys and girls. Stuff they are comfortable in, can move around in freely (kids that age will still take a turn on the playground equipment under the right circumstances), and works for the weather.

Whatever the heck she likes to wear!

My 11 year old daughter likes dresses that hit at the knee or longer, with natural waists. No minis or shorts. She also likes leggings and T-shirts. Loves faux fur. Everything has to be in her favorite colors (white and turquoise right now). While leggings and T-shirts can be found anywhere, her dresses are a little harder to find, because few make that traditional look, so I usually have to trawl lots of websites to find something.

DD would never wear a dress or skirt to school and neither would any of her friends. They’re all classic jeans girls but that might not be in at your DD’s school.

Every middle school has their own idea of what’s in and what’s not. Before you invest in any clothes she may refuse to wear after the first day, get to know some of the girls in your neighborhood who go to her school and ask them. Do not overbuy even then. Wait for the bulk of her wardrobe to be purchased that first weekend after school started.

It completely depends on the school. At our school, anything goes. At other, richer schools, brands matter.

6th grade girls don’t wear dresses to school.
Maybe tunics with leggings. Yoga pants, sweatshirts.

What does she wear on the weekends? Can't she just wear some of the same?

I would like to shop online with my DD for some regular clothes to wear at school for 6th grade. She likes dresses and being girly but I do not know any stored or brands that carry that for 11 olds. All I can think of is black leggings. What do your kids of that age wear to school?

P.S. She went school that required uniform.for everything (including PE clothes, backpack, hair bands etc).
