I'm about 50 and lived over there for many many years in my 20s to 40s. Still have friends there.

I would say most people meet new people through work and/or meetup groups.

Lots of outdoor activity groups - hiking, skiing, etc..

The majority of people I know there are not engineers, believe it or not, but they work for high tech companies on the operations or IT side (again, non eng.).

So, there are a lot of folks who are not SE there.

What's dating really like in the bay area for the 35+, both men and women? Also, is there a bigger proportion of older, well educated singles? How is social life for this age group? Is it easy for a single female transplant to find friends, or do people have a cliques that are resistant to newcomers?
