Nanny here.

If your kids want to swim all summer, great. If they want to go out and about to parks or museums, wonderful. Otherwise, expect that the nanny will either drive the kids to camps and activities or everyone will be home and going stir crazy.

I posted above, we hire a summer sitter so our kids can do swim and dive team. They would not be able to attend practices if the were in camp. Also as kids get closer to 12 there are not many camp options and they are over camp.

We pay our current part-time summer sitter $17/hr for 2 kids ages 9 and 12. She takes them to the pool for swim and dive practice. I need a driver more than a sitter as my kids are pretty self sufficient and do their own things when home. I think ages of kids and level of care they need plays a role in price. I'd pay more for 4 kids under the ager of 7 than OP's kids ages.

We had a summer babysitter at those ages. She took us to the pool and to friend's houses. I also remember going to the zoo, ice skating, to the movies, etc. We had great summers back then. We could sleep in, didn't have to rush out of the house with my mom at 7am, etc. Summer camps weren't that popular except for sleepaway camps.

That’s a lot of kids or a typical nanny. Most deal with 1-2 littles for $30 an hour. Cant you send the bigger kids to camp and make them not her/his responsibility? Either way, remember you get what you pay for.

You're definitely going to have to pay $30 an hour minimum. Why should she deal with 4 kids for $25 when a nanny could deal with one cute toddler for $25, you know?

Oh my... I’d guess $30 to $35 to make sure she was good and would stay the whole summer . Maybe even write in a bonus in her contract if he/she stays.

We had summer nannies and they were wonderful and $25 for one child (three years ago). Our best summer nanny here in DC was a student at Georgetown and wanted to stay here for the summer so she lived with us.

$30/hr. I babysit two kids in the summer (ages 7 and 5) and I charge $25/hr. I would also sign the kids up for different camps so the nanny doesn't have all 4 of them all day every day. Plus add in the most of outings.

We are trying to plan ahead for childcare options for next summer. We live in northern Virginia. I'm wondering what others may pay for a nanny for 4 children ages 7, 8 and 11 (times 2).
