No kid is going to be full from a popsicle. It would be like saying "camp makes my kid drink water before lunch and then she's too full for lunch"

As someone with an actual eating disorder, this forum makes me sad how messed up their food issues are. People dont get how it can seriously mess up their kids. I may have issues with food, but I work really hard to make sure my kid has a healthy relationship with it.

OP, I am pretty nutrition conscious, but when my kids did half-day outdoor sports camp last summer, I picked them up every day at noon and had a small cooler with popsicles for them to have on the way home. It was seriously hot, and for my kids at least, they were still ready for lunch.

Since there is no way you can expect your kid to sit and watch everyone else have a popsicle...just deal with it. Make lunch 30 minutes later.

As a former camp counselor I can assure you that popsicles are integral to keeping the schedule, transitioning kids and keeping them in one place for pick up. I can also assure you that if you say anything, you will be branded "that mom" and mocked mercilessly the minute all the kids are gone.

I would be really grateful that my kid’s camp was taking steps to keep them safe in the heat, but then I am educated enough in science to know that you can’t get hopped up on sugar.

It’s good for hydration for kids who don’t drink enough water and is probably used to keep them in one place for the pickup process.

That sounds pretty great. What a happy memory for the kids. Smart way to cool them off and fend off pick up crankiness too. I’d be grateful

Its 95F and the west coast is under continuous heatwave. I think they're more worried about kids falling out from heatstroke than your 'sugar rush'.

Popsicles have very few calories so I don't see this as ruining lunch unless your kid didn't like lunch all that much to begin with.

DC’s camp gets out at 12. Every day when we go to pick up the kids are having a popsicle. I have nothing against them but isn’t it a bit weird to be giving them to the kids right before they are supposed to go home for lunch? They also have a snack time 1.5 hours before so it’s not like there is nothing to eat. DC seems all hopped up from the sugar and not into lunch so I’m just kind of annoyed that this is their routine.
