i'd consider it, but i don't think it's any less crazy there. just a different kind of craziness. traffic is bad too, which would give me pause.

I went for two weeks on a business trip and liked it much more than I thought I would. Loved the scenery, loved the vibe. Everyone I encountered was incredibly friendly and helpful--i felt like it was a nice picture of feds, stoners, artists, and sporty people. The winters would kill me, though.

Make sure you can adjust to the altitude. I know of a few people who couldn't adjust to the altitude and in 6 months, they had to drop out of the college and go elsewhere. At least that is what the parents said about their kids. Who knows if that is the real reason. They kept getting headaches.
I know when I'm there, it takes me a few days to acclimate. Everytime we drive into the mountains, I would just get a headache. So much for looking at the beautiful mountains.

Hell yes. I would do anything to be closer to the mountains.

Not Denver proper, but Fort Collins is our intended retirement destination.

My thought is to go visit and get a feel for the place. In my opinion Denver is a bit overrated. The city and most of the immediate metro area is in the High Plains: flat, brown (although some of the tony neighborhoods are certainly more green), and bland. Traffic congestion is pretty bad and the mountains are a good deal further west than they might appear. Anyway, it's not my cup of tea, but might work for your family. Again, go visit.

OP 100% yes, there are tons of suburbs close in and or could live in the city limits.

Denver is amazing.

I'd definitely consider it. My brother lives there and we love visiting. He had previously lived in Omaha and much prefers Denver. His wife is Chinese and they dealt with bigoted comments in Omaha but have found a good multicultural community in Denver.

Yes! I have close friends Denver, who I visit often. I love it! DH won’t live or even visit the Midwest anymore so won’t be moving there anytime soon.

I visited expecting to love it and was surprised by how Midwestern it felt. More like Omaha than like Seattle. Maybe I should not have expected it to feel more trendy/west coast. Anyway it’s a pass for me.
