It can only go one of two ways, which both end badly.

1. You re-unite with past relationship and burn your marriage to the ground. Likelihood you can co-exist with a friend and fan the flames while married 0%

2. You meet and it's not everything you thought it would be. Total disappointment calculates to be 100%

Yep. And it really depends on the relationship previously and why there was no contact for 8 years. I'd be fairly skeptical of his motives and would keep it very light if you do respond.
