^but id probably call them a driver. My kids would be highly offended if I hired a sitter. Especially my teen son unless he thought she was good looking. Lol

It’s a great idea. Yes, they can stay home alone but if you can hire someone to drive them places then that’s even better. It doesn’t have to be all day or every day.

My parents used to hire older teens to drive me around during the summers some times when I was 11-16. Totally normal, how else are you going to get places? Especially because my sport had day time practices in the summer.

It would have been weird though if she called them “sitters”

It’s good to have a responsible adult around to get them out of the house and away from screens. Especially this year! Great idea!

yes you pay the same. We have a sitter for our 9 yo 3 hours a day twice a week in the afternoons while we work. I could leave DD home but she would be in front of screens, this way she can go to the pool or to her martial arts class. Also I. Don’t want her making her own dinner just yet. This way she can have dinner before I get home from work.

We have a sitter too for our 11 year old only. The sitter is a pal and a takes her to do fun things.

If the choice is kids stuck in the house all day or hiring someone who can drive them to pool, to meet friends at park, not over the top at all. If you were hiring a sitter for a couple tween/teens while you went out to dinner, that would seem unnecessary unless your kids are really not responsible enough or maybe 11/12 and scared to be alone (in which case it would be a good idea to slowly have them work on this - go on a 15 min walk, 30 min to run an errand, an hour to go shopping, etc.)

Yes! This week my kids have been home without camp and I did exactly what you did - hired a sitter 3 hours/day to get them out of the house, get fresh air, get off their devices etc. They went to the pool, to Rock Creek Park, to the movies etc. They are 11 and 12.

Hired a sitter to drive my preteens/teens to the pool and parks this summer a few times a week. DH thinks this is over the top and they should be able to stay home. Anyone else hire someone so kids don't have to stay inside at home all summer?
