Dear Dragon is a great series to follow Bob books. Then Biscuit and Elephant and Piggie.

Step 1 readers. But I will say, my kids LOVE reading their favorite board books the most. We have a rising kindergartener too. I've gone through our board books and picked out a bunch and DD loves to read them. Such as goodnight moon, Boynton books, etc. Green Eggs and Ham is also super easy for her but she gets frustrated by the repetition and length (me too girl!).

DD's books that I got her for her upcoming 5th birthday- magic treehouse, princess in black and mercy watson.

Through DCUM I discovered Dear Dragon, which are good for right after BOB books sets 4 or 5 or so.

Before your kid is comfortable with set 4 or 5, just keep doing BOB books. Do the sight word readers, the animal stories, the rhyming words ones, all those.

FCPL, at least, just got in the Five Chapter Books sets, and they are awesome. The first one in the first book is about 200 words long and my child who was at the time just done with the first BOB books set was able to read it. There are 5 "chapter" stories per book, a heavy emphasis on decodable words, and it's perfect for kids finishing up BOB books. Plus there are more of them and they go much further into phonics than BOB books.

All About Reading primers are also decodable.

I thought Osbourne phonics awful. got us nowhere

Buy recordable reader book set. they build on each other. picks up where Bob left off. this is what teachers use

The Biscuit series is great. Lots of repetition and decodable words, with a good balance of new sight words too.

We're at the same place. The Step into Reading series is much easier than the Ready to Read Series. I'd start with Step into Reading stage 1, then stage 2, then build from there. Agree that Elephant and Piggie is great for this stage too.

Level 1 guided readers I guess...which are basically just easy to read children's books. If you're in a school district, they usually have lists according to reading level (MCPS has one).

There isn't anything in between. Bob books are all regular words, but in order to be ready for actual books, even easy picture books, they have to be comfortable with many irregular words. Just be patient and keep introducing some sight words and reading to them or with them.

Many Elephant and Piggie are good and right in that range

Just wondering what comes next? Child is a rising K-er, doing well with the BOB books level D or E. We went to the library "early reader" section to branch out but most of what we found were too hard for DS, ending in frustration. I went back alone later to look and it seemed like most of the books were listed as G-K level. Are there any good easier series someone can point me to? Thanks!
