This was obviously a separate procedure, but I needed a blood transfusion after a c-section several years ago and had no issues. In case your procedure ends up necessitating that, just one experience that it wasn't a big deal.

I had this done with 13 removed! Several were quite large. I was 35 and had a successful fresh Ivf cycle right after. I actually ended up having 2 more successful pregnancies. If you’re in dc I really recommend dr Rifka at Columbia. Interesting that my uterus never fully went back to normal size. It’s still slightly enlarged. Good luck

I had a myomectomy at age 38. My doctor told me she removed about 2 lbs worth of fibroids from my uterus. I had to have an open surgery and received blood transfusions during the procedure. I had donated my own blood prior. My uterus never shrank down due to adenomysosis. I had one fresh transfer and two FETs fail before having a baby via gestational carrier. Now several years later the fibroids are all back, the adenomyosis is worse and I’m getting set for a hysterectomy.

OP again. Did your uterus shrink back at all after fibroid removal?

Yes. When I had an HSG before the myomectomy, the uterus was so distended that the fluid didn’t fill up and go out one of the Fallopian tubes. When I had the second HSG right after the myo, it was fine. The fluid filled it and went through both tubes. You could see that it was no longer distended. As I noted, I got pregnant a few weeks later. No issues. I did have to have a c-section because the surgery on the uterine wall compromised it.

Got pregnant a second time 4.5 years later. There were fibroids seen during that pregnancy, but they were small and didn’t interfere with anything.

+1. No issues with IVF and no blood transfusion needed. I don't recall the exact number removed. One large one (grapefruit size) and then a bunch of small to medium size ones. I had it done in 2008 and gave birth in 2012 and 2015.

For those of you who had an excess number of fibroids (10+), and had at least 6+ removed, were you able to get through IVF/conceive easier after? I am concerned because of this study, https://consultqd.clevelandclinic.org/number-of-fibroids-removed-may-impact-fertility-after-myomectomy/ and also because I am 40+ .

Also, did any of you who had myomectomy need a blood transfusion during surgery?

Finally, if fibroids were causing your uterus enlargement (mine looks like a 18 week pregnant uterus), did it shrink in any way after myomectomy?
