We put our rising K child on 3 Bright Horizon waitlists when I was pregnant and the only "communication" we have had from them since is them cashing the check! I think one had some sort of priority for law firm employees in the same building but other than that I think they were all just regular centers not affiliated with a work place. Kinda seems like the kind of thing that is ripe for regulation

I think normally if you don't work for DOJ in some capacity, or even have extended family who do, it's pretty much impossible to get a spot.

They just posted here recently that they are reopening with rooms for presscholers. How terrible that it was closed this WHOLE time! We lucked out and got a spot for PK4 several years ago with no federal parent at all. Like a lot of daycares, 3s and 4s empty out when kids go to DCPS. It's a really good center, still has the same director as when we were there.

Wow that's extreme! My kids used to be at the SEC daycare right nearby.

I got on 3 waitlists at 11 weeks pregnant and heard from 2 of them when my child was over a year old. Never heard from the 3rd. Good thing we had back-up options (grandparents), I don't know what we would have done otherwise.

We just got off the waitlist for a well-known DC preschool after 2.5 years. We signed up when I was 2 months pregnant and now our kid is 2 years old!

I’m sure Covid didn’t help the situation, but man just another PSA to get on those waiting lists ASAP!

Do you have to be pregnant to get on the waitlists? If so- do ppl just lie and get on the lists before they are pregnant? Incoming federal employee and I am doing IVF (im single) so I hopefully will have some control over when I conceive. Thanks!

yeah it's ridiculous, i remember getting a spot at some daycare center in downtown DC (USKids?) It was for a 4 year old slot and I had signed up when my kid was pregnant. But it's at least a partial scam so they can get your application fees because some of these daycares know they already have hundreds of kids on their waitlist and that you have no chance to get in.
