I was going from one public school undergrad to another public med school that was out of state. The head of the review panel told me about the grade bump. I had gotten through an interview with someone on the interviewing panel who wanted me in.

How do you know this? Did someone on the admissions committee tell you?

I don't think your 3.0 GPA from Duke or Northwestern is going to get you into med school.

…it doesn’t matter where you go, as long as you have the grades, test scores and internships/experience. A degree from a more prestigious school doesn’t buy you anything. A biology major from Mary Washington has the same chance as a biology major from William & Mary, all else being equal.

Come at me.
