If you are willing to drive, the Crown on Annandale Rd. near Rte. 50 is terrific. Quick and honest.

OP I've been hussled by safety inspections like you but it is basically random and can happen at any station. If they fail you for bs just take it to a second shop for reinspection.

I have never had a problem with this and I agree you can go anywhere. My car has never failed inspection. The inspection does not take long.

I used the Sunoco on Hunter Mill last month, minimal wait. Time before that I went to the Shell on 123 near Madison HS.

I also like Rosslyn Motors on 29 in Merrifield.

The safety inspection is very basic. (See https://www.vsp.virginia.gov/Safety.shtm for the list of what’s checked.) They don’t care if your transmission is rough or your timing belt needs replacing. Take it to any service station and get on with your life.

We use the dealer we bought from. We've never had an issue of them failing us or recommending unecessary repairs. YMMV.

Ah - so that's totally not the consensus. Have seen and heard literally dozens of fail the inspection so you have to get your car fixed at that garage (since most people aren't knowledgeable and/or too lazy to take their car somewhere else and/or don't want to drive around with failure sticker). So garage gets 200-1000 for phantom fix so folks can get their critical inspection sticker. Happens ALL THE TIME.

Wait times are something else - of course don't wait until Saturday end of month....

I think you are making this WAY more complicated than it needs to be! I've been getting my cars inspected for about 30 years.... you just go down to the ____ station and wait your turn and they inspect it and you're on your way.

They aren't looking to make money off of it like the car dealers do when you take it in for maintenance.

OK - let's give credit where it's due. Looking for best place to get VA Safety Inspection - place that does quick and efficient job and isn't looking to con you into repairs for no reason. Place that understands customer service and is looking to use inspection as opportunity to gain your trust and your business for the long haul.

I've read so many reviews of places that fail inspection for something small or unnecessary or take 2 hours to do simple safety inspection. Literally dozens and dozens of "avoid this place..."

But I know there have to be some solid places out there, with management/ownership looking to conduct inspection quickly, identify if there's a serious problem but otherwise get you on your way - i.e. more interested in becoming your "neighborhood mechanic" than ding you on inspection. Any recommendations?
