You shave before the treatment and in-between treatments too. You can even continue shaving daily...eventually all the hair are treated with laser in their active growing phase and that hair follicle falls off permanently. The hair that falls off, never grows back again. You may still have new hair grow from new areas of the skin...but it is usually driven by hormones. That is the reason people recommend waiting a bit so that your periods settle and hormones are more stable.

They shave at the salon and then laser that area. Later, the hair follicle inside the skin, grows out and falls off. You can continue shaving after the treatment too. You do realize that it will take around 8 treatments to get rid of the hair permanently? So you are looking at 8 months at least.
Underarms, lips and bikini line are painful areas and you will need to give her painkiller and lidocaine numbing ointment too. Also, you need to protect the lasered area from sun exposure etc.

I used to wax my DD's hair myself because the salons do a piss poor job of waxing which resulted in breakage instead of removing hair from root, resulting in a lot of ingrown hair. I am an expert waxer and I took my time using the best ingredients and following strict hygiene. If you can get a great recommendation for a good waxing place, maybe you should get her waxed for the summer camp and also give her a razor and shaving cream to touch up at camp.

Tell her to just shave every day like the rest of us.

You shave or trim with a scissor in between treatments. Get just the underarms done at this point.

No waxing, plucking, candle cutting, threading or hair removal creams in that area.

I would recommend more extensive laser hair removal (upper lip, arms, legs, belly, butt, back, bikini line) when she is 16 or so. This is so that her periods stabilize and her hormones are settled. This is to minimize new hair popping out from new places.

I wouldn't allow it for a child this young. I would wait until they're finished with puberty. She can shave every day in the summer. Lots of girls do.

Okay I am aware of this but there will be multiple years when she is in summer camp so it’s not like it’ll be useless for that. And it will help a teeny bit for this year.

You have to let it grow out a bit, get the treatment, do NOT shave but let it grow out snd fall out on its own, and then repeat the process a few times.

It will not help in time for summer camp.

Well crap, typo in the title of the thread. Child is 12, not 13.

My 12 yo has really thick dark armpit hair. If they go a day without shaving you can really tell. She wants to get laser hair removal, especially becuser she’s going to summer camp and doesn’t want to worry about being totally embarrassed if she skips a day of shaving.

I think 12 is so young for this. Am I wrong?
