Same. I’m a car seat safety fanatic so I’m not going to compromise on this, but I have so many good memories of sitting up front with my dad for school drop off in elementary.

it’s not a law it’s a guideline.

It’s the law. Under 8 they have to be restrained, and the restraint has to be in the back seat. https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title46.2/chapter10/section46.2-1095/

On a regular basis? We’re waiting until 13. If I have more kids than backseat my 11 rides in the front.

Around 10 regularly for DS. He was over 5 feet and over 100 pounds at that point. At 13 he’s much taller and over 140 so the back would have been pretty cramped for a while in my small car. My daughter still rides in the back out of habit, even if it’s only the two of us. She’s 11 and about 100 pounds. I’d let her ride in the front if she asked.

My 11 year old has been riding there for about a year. He's taller and heavier than I am.

I believe it was 10 for my kids.

My 10yo is really short, so no time soon. And I regularly get an earful about how she's the only one of her friends who doesn't.

My 11.5yo is tall and heavy enough and has ridden in the front a few times when we are going a short distance.

When I have more kids in the car than available seats, one rides in the front. Otherwise, they all ride in the back. The kids are eleven.

Height and weight don't matter.

Their bones need time to calcify, that way they don't splinter and drive shards into their lungs. Manufacturers recommend no earlier than 13 due to this.
