Buy a good quality used car that will hold its resell value. Sell it at the end of the summer. Beware, though, that you need to factor in costs for parking, insurance, and title fees, and (depending on where you live) property insurance to figure out if this is really cost-effective.
Or, advertise on Craiglist or Next-door that you want to rent someone's car for the summer. You will still have to provide your own insurance--or at least get added to their policy--but you will not have to deal with title and property taxes.
