I have to maintain a relationship of some sorts with a deceased relative’s X to keep the kid in our lives. I have him muted on FB and therefore don’t have to see his Trump-fellating posts. Once every couple months, I post asking about his DD and offering to take her out.

I am only in control of my own behavior, so I try to act in a way that I won't regret later on. If avoidance isn't possible, I'm polite.
I also always try to remind myself of the saying: "Never argue with a crazy person. Onlookers won't know the difference."

In your case: ignore and avoid. I would simply pretend they are not there and if I start to feel myself getting provoked, excuse myself to go to the bathroom, make a phone call, help clean, etc.
