“Really small houses” don’t have 2 1/2 bathrooms, btw.

We just hosted between 40-50 people Memorial Day weekend and one indoor bathroom was fine. I would only worry if you were on septic.

Weird you have 2.5 bathrooms and won’t let guest uses all the bathrooms.

I mean I have older aunts, pregnant women, women nursing all types of stuff and at a larger party let them use my master bathroom

Well, that was pretty bold of your step-daughter. I would NOT be pleased. But then I would have asked for the guest list first...

Just offer the half bath and then if there’s a need, they can use your son’s half bath. No way on your own personal bathroom. Porta potties would make you look like a huge, giant ass, definitely don’t do that.

One powder room is plenty for a party with 50 people. We just hosted a 50 person outdoor party this weekend and the powder room was definitely not overburdened. I don’t think anyone even had to wait to use it during our party.

Pp who allows people to use ds's bathroom: no way I'm going to let guests into my room and en suite bathroom! I'm with op on that one.

I would go with these options:

Have the party at a venue. If cost or time are an issue, even just a community building or public park would be fine (rent an area of a park that has good bathrooms).

Allow guests to use your son's bathroom. Clean it up nicely and remove anything from his room you don't want people to have access to. And lock your own bedroom door.

We let guests use our son's en suite bathroom often. It's no big deal.

You need to get over yourself and let people use all the bathrooms. 2.5 bathrooms is plenty for 50 people.

You are going to be a total ass*ole of mega proportions if you are too prissy to allow people to use the bathroom in your master bedroom. Just clean your crap up and put everything away.

Experienced party host question!

Long story short: my stepdaughter is having a family party at our small, old house soon. She lives across the country and this location is fairly central to her very big extended family on my DH's ex's side. When we said we would host the party, we assumed it would be a fairly small group for a backyard party...like 20 people. Turns out, she invited 100 people and at least 35 are coming, likely more.

Our yard can fit that many people but we have a really small house and only 2 1/2 bathrooms. The two bathrooms are both en suite and upstairs, and I would rather not have my DH's ex wife's entire extended family traipsing through my bedroom and son's room to use the toilets there. But is one half bath enough for this big of a crowd? I don't believe there will be alcohol served, and about 10 guests will be children. What's a general rule guideline for how many people a guest bathroom can support during a party? Do I need to get a Porta-Potty? We've hosted parties of 20 or 25 several times and occasionally people have needed another bathroom, but that's usually during long-stretch family events like Christmas or times when alcohol is served. Plus they were all my friends or family, not my DH's ex's family.
