I was like that too, op! In my youth, I didn't need bread at all! Disliked it, in fact!
But after 40 I craved carbs! In fact, now I think there is nothing wrong with potatoes and bread! I would rather not eat meat, and if you think about it, there is truly nothing bad about bread and potatoes, just don't buy the crap sugar bread! Meat has so many more calories that you can still lose weight, if that is your goal, eating potatoes and bread!
Just don't fry it in a gallon of oil!

Try small portions of the food you are craving
increase protein consumption
seek pleasure outside of food - take yourself to a movie, get a pedicure, etc.

The times when you are the least motivated and want to quite at the times it matters the most. Keep going! Success is right around the corner.

Also you might be about to get your period? This always happens to me at period time. I am 100% going to end up making brownies in the next week because of this.

Ha ha yeah this might be a factor...

Ab-so-F'ing-Lutely!! OMG the week before my period I eat twice as much sugar as I normally do. I mean, I just do it mindlessly, and only after a couple of days of eating like that do I realize I'm about to get my period. Chocolate, sugar, bread - all the stuff of PMS.

There's more research coming out about how addictive processed food is - several books such as "Hooked" by Michael Moss.

I've been helped by adding more healthy fats - look up Pegan diet. It helps me control cravings.

Op I hear you. I have been doing well too and made some really positive changes in my diet for months. This week I just want carbs and sugar. I “broke” tonight and ate a desert which is disappointing because I have been trying to eliminate refined sugar from my diet. When I knew I was going to give in and indulge I picked an ice cream with a little less sugar. (“Cado”. I hadn’t had it before; it tastes pretty good.). I find it hard to give up sweets after I have them. So I hope this isn’t a slippery slope. I am trying to view the diet changes as a long term commitment I just have to keep working on.

It happens to all of us. This is why several posters on here keep emphasizing that tiny lifestyle changes are better than drastic diets than we cannot maintain over time. Consistency is easier to achieve by making a very small change and gradually losing.

Hang in there. It gets easier. Eventually, the desire for food that doesn’t truly serve you decreases. And when you do indulge, it’s easier to appreciate it in moderation, and you don’t get that pesky guilt.

I got all into healthy eating, trying to eat more nutritious veggies and cut down on the starches. Now all I want is to eat all the bad things. Cheese, frapuccinos, ice cream, soda, bread, potatoes. I was eating these in moderation but now it is ALL I want. I think I am losing motivation because my weight plateaued despite all my efforts, it's fine but not my target. Anyway just a vent. Why is healthy eating so hard?
