Do these types of communications come by mail or will they show up in Parentvue?

^^ sounds good. I suspect that some kids will need some math 5 and some will be ready for Math 6 extended/pre-algebra.

Looks like the advanced path for 6th graders will either be called Pre-algebra or Math 6 Extended (but there won't be 2 different advanced math pathways) and the rest will be in regular Math 6.

Nice that they have brought 6 Extended back. During the online open house this spring they didn’t indicate that was an option. I wonder if test scores showed such a huge disparity that they realized they needed more differentiation.

MS MATH PLACEMENT FOR SY 2021-2022:
Math Placement for the 2021-2022 school year will be completed and communicated in June. Please note that the Math Office will use data acquired through Quarter 4 to determine course offerings for rising 6th graders and to make placement recommendations for all APS students who will be in middle school during the 2021-2022 school year.

For students who are ready for a compacted curriculum in 6th grade, we plan to offer either Pre-Algebra for 6th graders or Math 6 Extended. With either class, students who demonstrate readiness will be able to enroll in Algebra I, Intensified in 7th grade. Again, there has not been a decision made but we will ensure that students who demonstrate readiness will be properly prepared for Algebra I, Intensified in 7th grade regardless of the course that is offered.

It is important to note that students will be offered extensions in all middle school mathematics course offerings as they demonstrate readiness.

We do not anticipate any modifications to the mathematics courses available for rising 7th and rising 8th graders for the 2021-2022 school year. As is the case with rising 6th graders, all placement decisions will be made after all available data is gathered through the fourth quarter of this school year

Because his math teacher is an embarrassment to the profession and I have no desire to speak to her again. I still want to know his score and recommended placement.

We got report cards today — uploaded in Parentvue. Totally useless standards based grading.

No MI scores yet.

I keep checking under ParentVue Documents, but nothing yet. I assume we will get the info along with the final grade report.

I’m sure APS will tell you there isn’t a score that puts you in pre-algebra as they look at a combination of things. We’ve gotten so little information this year that I feel like it might to the one thing that tells me how my kid is doing, at least in math.

The mid-year shows up in Parentvue. But I’m not sure how much they will help you predict placement for next year. APS doesn’t give any indication of what score, if any, would place a kid in pre-algebra versus Math 6. Why not just ask teacher what they recommended for your child?
