It is "to bad to sad" because the kids on rec team have fun and worked hard all year both travel & rec players. Then to have travel teams schedule tournaments on championship weekend of "rec" league is just pure selfishness. When my older two sons played "rec" this was never really an issue but as my younger two are starting to play I am seeing this becoming a bigger issue on the teams. Why at U10 you have to miss championship weekend of the "rec" league for some travel game is just stupid. Whatever travel tournament you at U10 for 3/4 graders going to get you into UVA or UNC. It is wrong to be putting these kids into position to choose between their teammates that worked together to make it to championship weekend. Half these travel teams are no better then a rec team (I am not just talking lax).

In previous years it was always "rec games Saturday, travel games Sunday".

This year both travel and rec were Saturday.

Bummer, but we had to miss a couple of rec games. Mostly it was do-able, even with the one hour drive back from HoCo.

We are at a travel tournament on June 12-13, so my son will miss the rec "championship" game. Too bad, so sad.

Travel soccer clubs and coaches generally don't allow any flexibity to accommodate other sports, especially when MS starts. My kid quit soccer and was able to play select basketball and travel lax.

My kid is in fifth grade and plays for our area's travel team. The travel season ends with a tournament this weekend, so this is a short term issue since after next week we are solidly in club territory. The travel team added the practices and tournament to the schedule just this past week throwing me for a loop because originally there were no conflicts on the calendar with the start of club season. I had already RSVPd to club practices. How do people handle this? I hate to upset either team's coaches but both are adamant that we attend.

Club first, always. But especially because the town team seems to have added it last minute so it is their fault for not planning ahead.

This. You do club. My issue is my kid does club soccer and Lacrosse, lacrosse is good about relazing things in Fall but soccer is not. So, we are done with club soccer after this summer.
