Myrtle Beach is a much bigger area and I do think it is worth the drive. While I agree with an earlier poster that a lot of southern folks visit, there are a lot of DMV visitors. The accommodations are more varied, tons of condos, townhomes, single family homes to rent, a slew of every type of restaurant you can imagine, dinner shows, shopping, activities all over and just lots to see and do. You can kinda pick what “scene” you want. There’s MB proper which gives you a boardwalk and a “trashier” feeling around the boardwalk but off boardwalk is great, in fact there is a huge Marriott property that where you can find hotels, condos, villas houses that is really nice. There’s North MB which I think is much nicer overall. Then below MB, there’s Surfside, Garden City, Litchfield and Pawley’s Island. Most hotels or condos have lazy rivers, multiple pools.

I would drive the extra hour and go to Hilton Head

Myrtle Beach has wider beaches and you aren't on top of people, water is warmer and calmer. If you want a nicer area to stay, head toward Litchfield, Pawley's or Surfside. There is probably more to do in the Myrtle area.

It’s very busy like Ocean City with lots to do, yes. However the Delaware and Maryland beaches attract a more northern clientele while Myrtle Beach attracts a more southern clientele (Pro gun and confederate flag shirts abound). There are nicer sections of Myrtle Beach, Like Ocean Isle and close by Oak Island.

Ocean Isle and Oak Island are in an entirely different state. They aren’t sections of Myrtle Beach.

Trashier. A bit warmer. Lots of great golfing opportunities nearby.

Rehoboth is probably nicer and my choice between the two. I’ve only been to Myrtle once. It’s a lot bigger than Rehoboth and the water is really nice. If you like to do lots of stuff on vacation, you may like Myrtle. Lots of shops, amusements, mini golf...etc.

Much bigger place. Nicer beach. Warmer water. More places to go eat or shop. Huntington Beach not too far either and very nice as well. We found a very nice place to stay in - Litchfield.

They are all the same.

Myrtle Beach is a typical trashy beach boardwalk. Not that I do not like it, but it's no different. Might be slightly warmer.

Is it worth the extra drive?

We usually go to a local beach and a larger summer vacation where we fly.

Wondering if Myrtle Beach is worth the extra drive.

How does it compare to OC or Rehoboth?
