If there is a buffer of trees, it would be a pro to me. We live 1 block from a trail, and other less obvious considerations are: more deer and insects from the woods. The deer come into my neighborhood and eat people's plants. Mosquitos and ticks are worse being near woods.

As long as we have a privacy barrier, huge pro. I do worry about kid safety from weirdos though. So maybe undecided.

My parents house (the one I grew up in) backs up against a trial and it has never occured to me to consider it a con. After reading the responses I can see why people would think it was, but it's never affected me growing up. We're visiting them this weekend and I was thinking how nice it was to just open up the fence and immediately be on it.

It would be a big plus to me to back onto a park or trail.

I think it's fine as long as you have a privacy fence.

Total plus. But it is dependent on the space involved. We live in the city across the street from houses that have a huge (think 300-700 yards wide) wooded area with trails behind them. I would love to be on their side of the street and imagine it’s worth a ton in home value. That said, the woods are thick and the trail is dead in the middle so most of the time you can not see people using it.

Con....better to back to a public roadway vs walking trail - have lived with both scenarios.

Con. My dogs will bark at every dog who goes past.

+1
I like being 1/4 mile to the trail so I can run or bike on it.

Being near a trail would be a plus. Backing to a trail, not so much, unless there's a way to get some privacy from all the trail users.

It depends on how much space there was between the trail and my property, the trail against a fence would be a con, the trail, 50 feet of woods and then my fence would be a plus

We are trying to get a read on if a trail behind our house is a selling point or not. If you were an avid runner/biker and liked using the trail, but also had young kids so had safety concerns, would a relatively busy trail - like say the capital crescent trail - backing up to your backyard be a pro or con for you? There is not a direct path from the yard, but it is visible from the trail in the winter (less so in the summer).
