I’d go with Evan as a full name but Van could also be short for Devan, if you like that better.

My son’s name is Evan and I call him Ev. Would never consider calling him Van. Ever. Ugly name to me.

I've always loved the actor Van Johnson. Apparently, his full name was Charles Van Dell Johnson. You could use it as a middle name, and call him by it. It's not uncommon to go by a middle name.
