If you otherwise like her I would talk to her sometime next week. Say you understand legit emergencies but you both have jobs to do too and her being late effects everyone.

No, not ok. I had a flakey PT nanny for a long time - but she was great in other ways and I had a ton of flexibility, so I kept her. But, I can say that this behavior doesn't stop - if she does it once, she'll do it again. If you aren't flexible and you don't have other reasons to keep her, I'd tell her that she has to give advance notice for any time off except for sudden illness/emergency.

It's marginally possible she actually does have a bona fide emergency that she didn't tell you about. It's worth asking.

No, that's not a good sign at all.

Nanny here. You need to start looking for a new nanny immediately. This one will continue to be unreliable and constantly asking for favors.

Sorry, OP. It happens. Some nannies are just flakes.

Holy smokes, yeah. I'm sorry, OP. You have to fire her stat.

+1 my mind would go to addiction issues

Ha, no, mid-50's she probably has an adult child that has "emergencies" she is expected to resolve.

Was she at her boyfriend's place that night?

She is in her early 50s and lives with her son so not sure if she has a boyfriend or would have been at his place.

That’s crazy for the second week. We’ve had the same nanny for 8 years and that has never ever happened.

Our new nanny is on week 2. We really like her and she is doing well with our kids, except there is one issue. On Monday she texted me at 9am telling me she was sorry but she would be an hour late. She doesn’t arrive until 9am and her commute is only 30 mins so it’s not like she overslept. When she arrived I told her it was fine this time but we really need her to be on time since DH and I both typically have morning meetings. She didn’t say much but didn’t offer up a reason for why she was late.

Then today while my kids were napping she said she is sorry but she really needs to leave at 4pm today instead of 5:30pm. I told her we really need more notice because we can’t just drop everything with our jobs and we happened to have meetings this afternoon, but that she could leave as soon as my meeting ended around 4:45.

Is it normal for a nanny to need to come late and leave early when she is just a couple weeks on the job? Worried this is going to set a precedent for the future and DH and I need someone we can count on.
