If you have friends on FB, they have a shadow profile of you already. If you want to be super secretive you need to use a burner pc, never look at it on your phone, use a throwaway email alias, and connect via a VPN. And accept that they still will know more about you than you want them to.

There was a podcast mentioned on the Post with one of the founders of Google and he had a lot to say about the amount of information that is gathered every time you surf the net. He explained how incognito mode doesn't really do much to protect your privacy.

Agreed! And even if I opt out, people who have me in their contacts give away my info. So many apps request permission to your contacts and photos. That's insane!

People don't realize that companies push apps on the phone because they can gather so much information about you from your phone. People need to stand up to this.

Start with an email address you don't use for anything else. It is against the terms of service to not use your real name (although that doesn't mean I don't know people who do that). Limit what information you provide. Access it only through a single web browser on incognito mode and from only a single computer - better yet a profile on that computer you use for nothing else.

They make their money by tracking you. You get free use of their site. They get your data. If it makes you feel better, I have heard they track non Facebook account holders too.

Due to changing events in my life, there is a FB website I am going to need to frequent so I am giving in, after all these years. Can someone just help me in an idiot-proof way, to set the settings so I can keep it from tracking me?
