Most newer models are leases (ie maintenance and repair costs are irrelevant). It’s the people who buy them heavily discounted fresh out of warranty that tend to get screwed.

Current Audis look better inside and out (in my opinion) and offer more tech; BMWs always feel more solid to me though.

Actually, I drove an Audi for more than a dozen years and over 180,000 miles, and loved every minute and every inch.

But it required ridiculous things, like completely replacing brake rotors that on any other could just have been turned down to smoothness at a fraction of the cost. And every shop trip, there was something else needing replacement to keep the car in its finely engineered prime. And, as a PP noted, the parts were pricey as hell.

So, yes indeed, I know precisely what it takes to maintain a fine German car in peak condition over a very long time.

Owned several BMWs and Audis in my lifetime and I like handling of BMW a lot better. Have a new X3 right now and Q5 doesn't even come close to it. Slightly better resale value too.

My X3 is a 2016. The first three years of maintenance were completely free. I’ve paid for two oil changes at $110 each at jiffy lube since that free program period ended. I bought one set of tires (I had modestly priced insurance on the tires and when one blew out they replaced it free). I have 64,000 miles. Is that bad? My last BMW was a 2001 330xi and I traded it in for the X3 when it had 112,000 miles. Toward the end maintenance expenses were more such as replacing struts for a couple thousand. I don’t feel my maintenance charges were more than any other car.

The X3 looks better than the Audi and drives way way better. Has great technology too.

We have had two Q5's the 2020 is way better than our 2017.

We love it. I am super short and where the side view mirrors ae located is great for my sitting position. Car rides amazing.

Interface for nav and such takes some getting used to. We are normally Acura, Honda, Toyota drivers, but decided to try Audi and honestly so happy. All the safety features work really well.

I would buy the Lexus before the BMW but that's just me.

I will say that PP is correct any maintenance will be super
pricey.

Exactly. Test drive and decide. Personally don't like the Q5 much. Had the Q7, now have the A7. Love it. DH leans more toward BMWs. Hard to go wrong, it's personal preference.

They are both nice. Test drive them and see which you like better. Personally, I prefer BMW’s interior/interface. But that is person specific. You may prefer Audi’s.

BMW is better

They're both gorgeous cars. Definitely test drive them both. We opted for the x3 and love it, but the audi is also a beautiful car.

Which is better? X3 (not an M) or Q5. Both look nice.
