For the cicadas? Baby trees are vulnerable, I’m not sure about the small ornamentals like Japanese maples.

I'm about to net my trees. I'm so tired of the squirrels and birds stealing our apples and peaches. We're trying to avoid that this year and harvest our own fruit for a change. You can hate our nets all you want.

People are making money selling cicada panic supplies. There will always be a market for panic-based products and services. I don't mind the netters as much as the mosquito sprayers.

Sorry, what's this about? You disagree with people protecting young, newly-planted trees (which presumably they paid for) from cicada eggs? Why? It seems logical to me but I admit I'm biased since I absolutely netted the two trees I just planted in April.

That's not nice of you. While netting trees is not necessary in most cases, I always respect those who want to mitigate risk, rather than those who prefer to take on more risk.
