What are the benefits of the cluster model? I've heard board members advocate for keeping it but don't really understand why MCPS twists itself in knots to accommodate it.

Yes, the Woodward HS boundary study will include the DCC (or at least that's the current plan).

And yes, you should assume that there will also be changes in which middle schools go to which high schools.


DP. Though Silver Creek may not be part of it, since they're neither WJ nor DCC clusters. The middle schools I would expect to be part of the boundary study would be North Bethesda, Tilden and the DCC middle schools they're adjacent to: Newport Mill, Loiederman, and Parkland.

Will DS be in 6th? Because Unfortunately, the Woodward/Northwood project might be delayed one year by the County Council due to budget shortfalls.

Or split that into 2 different consortia, maybe something like BCC/Blair/Northwood/Kennedy in one and WJ/Woodward/Einstein/Wheaton in the other, but I think that many people in BCC and WJ would probably balk at that as evidenced by the reaction of one of the previous posters.


But even in a consortium, there’s a feeder pattern and a home school.

I don’t think it’s a terrible idea to add say BCC, WJ and Woodward to the DCC. Or split that into 2 different consortia, maybe something like BCC/Blair/Northwood/Kennedy in one and WJ/Woodward/Einstein/Wheaton in the other, but I think that many people in BCC and WJ would probably balk at that as evidenced by the reaction of one of the previous posters.

Since Woodward is going to end up with students from WJ and the DCC it’s going to be difficult if not impossible to strictly adhere to clusters.
