We are playing Super Y for the first time this summer. While I’m not exactly looking forward to the hot games, I know my son thrives on the competition of the game, and so we chose Super Y over a 1 or 2 week training camp. We’ll see how it goes …

Having enough players is usually more of a problem than having to many.

INFAMOUS Stupid Y game a few years ago. DS’ team had SEVEN for an entire u17 Super Y match! Only lost 0-4 against an opponent with one sub. Coach told us after the game thank you for playing, you just saved the club from a $500 penalty for going through with the game!!! We had driven over hour away for the game. Needless to say, I was NOT happy to have wasted the time and money for that summer of BS.

Have to tell you that does not sound like a waste of time for your son. Important life lesson. Sometimes you are undermanned and you still do what you can do. 0-4 is a good result. Something they can be proud of. Plus the good will with the coach. That is life. It sucks, is hard, and you lose. How you deal with that determines your future. Resilience. It can be learned. I would have loved that game.

Super y sucks. Most parents and players end up hating it.

Rosters of 30 kids. Hot practices. No consistency in the kill on the field and in opponents. Etc. like rec league waste of time.

Unless your child is just trying to get some extra game/ practice time in over the summer. Then it serves its purpose.

Spend the money on private fitness or skills lessons instead.

Thanks for telling me what to do with my mone y.

Thanks for posting on a public board!
Who knew that someone might reply and/or offer advice?

I am the OP and not the person who posted that.

That's why we don't do Super Y anymore...either 30 kids showed up or, 6.
Often, thunder storms canceled the games and practices.
Total waste of time.

Yea, I hear it’s not extremely competitive. DS is just doing it to stay 11 v 11 fit. Private training and performance training will be a priority over Super Y.

At the beginning of the summer yes. Because most people aren’t taking vacations in June. Once July and August start rolling around people start going in an out of two.
