It makes sense to compare BSC to rec because BSC has one of the weakest girls programs in the area. That club isn't in the same league as elite clubs like McLean, FCV or Pipeline. BSC parents are probably better off doing rec than spending money to travel out of state to get destroyed by superior teams. A buddy of mine with a girl on the BSC u18/19 team said he overheard a parent from the opponent complain that they wasted time traveling from NJ to Bethesda play such a weak team and that the local rec team in Jersey would have been a better opponent. That was after the Jersey team scored two goals in the first 5 minutes.

The BSC top girls teams are typically decent but their second teams are no better than Rec. soccer.

I get that people like to crap on BSC but this is absolutely ludicrous. Maybe some 3rd/4th teams, but there isn't a single second girls team that wouldn't absolutely destroy any rec team, period.

We loved MSI Classic for our U10-12 player .. had outgrown REC in DC but needed a competitive team to play with without a huge increase in travel and cost. The team players were all serious about learning and improving. Her coach was non-parent and female and amazing.

At this age I don't think it's worth it. There are decent teams in MSI Classic and the professionally coached ones do very well. I think they were Brit-Am teams I saw that were passing very nicely at that age and it looked more like real soccer than the kick and run games I saw that were "travel."

Amen!

As to equal playing time, my child played on a parent coached team and they did get equal playing time. It really depends on the coaches.

Not on my kid’s team. But it is a dad-coached team (which is cheaper than a pro-coached classic team). Definitely did not give equal playing time—especially favors his own kid.

The major difference is the level of play (competition) and travel distance to away games.

MSI Classic is a MSI Club League. The play games exclusively in MoCo, both for hone and away games. The competition, skills, & talent level is lower than than travel soccer but better than Recreation.

Based in my limited experience, classic is 2 practices/week, cost is less than 2k, winter skills is optional. Academy is 3 practices/week, 3-4K, winter required... overall more intense.

What's the real difference if the classic team is coached by a professional coach too in terms of the benefits for the players? Our child is U10 if that helps. Thanks!
