A LOT of preschools and daycares are peanut/tree nut free and experienced with handling allergies. Start calling/touring and include this in your questions.

Every daycare my kids have been to, they washed hands before and after lunch/snacks and also washed faces as needed. There was no food sharing and they had protocols in place for allergies. “School” is not like home and, with the exception of water, kids don’t have open access to food/drinks.

I work in a daycare and not even the babies grab and drink the other kid’s snacks and drinks. We are careful and teach the kids not go drink or eat other kids drink. Does he have impulse control issues? I’m sure you already doing this but teach him to only drink and eat only from his whole plate what he is served. They will have to put him in a peanut-free room.

Do you think he’ll drink their milk or is he allergic to where even touching milk will trigger an allergic reaction?

They don’t drink milk all day long. There’s a lunch time and a snack time. Talk to preschools you’re interested in and ask their protocol for handling allergies.

Hi All - my son has severe food allergies (dairy, egg, peanuts, tree nuts). Does anyone have experience placing their child in a preschool that did a really great job dealing with food allergies? I assume a classroom could be designated as peanut and tree-nut free. But the idea of having kids drinking dairy milk in open cups all day long makes me so nervous. Would love to hear about your experience. Thank you!
