Our center stopped the sheets once they were out of the potty training room aka: three year olds and up.

Now they've gone back to them since we can't go into the room and speak to the teacher. So my 4.5 year old comes home with one that says how much of each snack/meal he ate (none, some, all) and if he napped or not. I appreciate it even though I know it's got to be a pain for the teachers to do.

Interesting, good to know. Thank you. Seems like policies vary.

OP here. Thanks everyone for your input!! I'm gonna start researching other daycares and seeing what our options are

Follow your instincts, mama. If this is how they handle the care for a brand new charge, a helpless infant who was born preterm to first time parents and whose pediatrician has expressed concern about inadequate weight gain, the level of care will never improve. You are literally paying this business to serve your baby’s needs and have no evidence that they are doing so. Find new caregivers you feel good about.

My daycare uses an app for the daily activity tracking and sometimes they’re a bot lax about updating it and I’m fine with that because I love everything else about them. BUT my kid started at 9 months, is currently 1.5 and has no health concerns. To not let you know exactly how much a newborn is eating and sleeping every day scares me! Especially given that you and your ped have weight concerns. Do you have other options? Can you creditably threaten to switch to a different provider if they don’t consistently track his feeds (and make sure he’s getting enough)? I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all, given the circumstances.

Echoing the other PPs, you are not being unreasonable. I had 2 kids at 4 different daycare centers (2 for first child, 2 for second child) and a backup center, and we always got daily sheets every day that showed eating, sleeping and diapering (or potty training) from each one. I would be very upset at their unwillingness to provide the info and to feed him appropriately, especially when a doctor is involved!

You are not being unreasonable. They should be giving you a daily record of his feelings, diapering and sleeping. Even if they only do it Monday through Wednesday it wouldn’t be unreasonable for you to get it every day since the doctor is worried about his weight.

Send a written request asking for the daily updates and for more frequent feedings.

IME you get what you pay for.

Way to stereotype in-home daycare. My DS’s is responsive and gives daily updates and pictures.

My daycare used an app and it was very up to date, so much that I used the app to time when I went to do my once a day nurse.

Big red flags here.

No, not ok. I did 12 activity sheets every single day. No exception did during nap and kept adding as needed. And not responding? Yeah, no.
Sounds like a shitty daycare.

Not acceptable, I’m sorry! Can you get a nanny for a while?

I would suspect their days are not going smoothly in the room or that they have been under staffed for some reason.

Usually when transitioning a new little one into care they do their best to go above and beyond with communication to set your mind at ease. At least the minimum of diapers & feedings should be communicated.

FTM at my very first daycare so interested in everyone's thoughts.

My son is 3 months and just started daycare. Due to COVID, all the "visits" were virtual but they told me that they send daily activity sheets through an app...great. My son was born early and very small so my husband and I like to keep track of his feeds to make sure we're generally at a good place with calories.

Well on his first day of daycare his caregivers told me they only send activity sheets Monday-Wednesday. Weird, but ok we let it slide. We noticed in his first few days of entries they were feeding him only about half of what we give him at home. Disappointing, but we thought maybe it was cause it's a new environment and he's getting used to it. We just tried to feed him as much as possible in the mornings and evenings.

Well, we went to the doctor the other day and they told us they were a little concerned about his weight gain and we needed to make sure he was getting what we usually feed him (4oz every 2 hours, instead of the 2oz he gets at daycare). We told the daycare this and they never responded. When I picked him up, they said he's eating great but they weren't gonna do activity sheets today cause they were busy (it's literally a piece of paper with all his diaper changes and feeds that they take a picture of and send through an app). Well, it's now been a week without any info on how my son has been eating, pooping, sleeping, etc.

I really like the caregivers and I don't need a live video feed, but not having any information has been really hard for me. Are all daycares like this? It's only been a few weeks at this daycare but I'm thinking of trying another place if they can provide us with more regular info. Am I being totally unreasonable?
