My kid was one of the worst players on the top team at U10. He is now a U12. [b]My experience is that he got better playing with with players that were better than him. For development (which is the most important thing to consider), I would move to the A team. [/b][/quote]

That's a very different situation. OP isn't talking about her kid refusing to play for the club at all because he didn't make the top team, her kid wants to play for the same club on B team rather than A team. [/quote]

yup , that is all it is .. kid is so very happy and thriving on the B and wants to stay

There are reasons to choose a B team over an A team and no club will kick you out because of it

Does your child know kids on the A team already that they like? Do you know anything about the culture on that team?My DD has been on some teams where the chemistry was great, and others that made her miserable. Same club, but different teams with very different girls/vibes. You child is young - you don't want to put them somewhere they'll be unhappy and want to quit.

At U10 the travel will be the same regardless of which team but that won’t change significantly until they are U13.
If it’s a pool system your kid could get moved down or up anyway my guess.

I have been a manager for several years and this definitely happens. I didn't see any negative effects in our club.

I think U10 you are still 7v7 let the kid play with his friends where he wants to play if he is improving and being challenged etc. as long as he isn't like WAY above the other kids or teams he will continue to improve and be happier and more likely to love the learning aspect.

I've known families who kept their kid on the B team, because they didn't want the additional travel that would be required of the A-Team's league. It's not unheard of to turn down a spot on the top team.

When a friends child was trying out (Ulittles) for travel and turned it down because they didn't make one of the top two teams (out of five), they did not make ANY team the following year. This child is talented and made it on another club team no problem.

here's the thing... at U11 they play 9v9 and not 7v7 anymore so more players are allocated playing time. The max roster size increases to 16 instead of 12.

Highly recommend that you move to the A team and keep developing and not worry about being a sub. Within a year or two, your kid will be able to be a role player on the top team. If you don't start that learning curve now, it only gets harder and harder later.

You will also learn that teams don't stick together (especially "B" teams) and players move up, move down, filter in and filter out each year so don't get too attached to things at such a young age. By U14 teams are pretty solidified but definitely not at U10.

play on B and train on A for a little while. find out what your kid likes

My son had an opporunity to move up a team in Alexandria, but turned it down. I don't really understand why, but he felt strongly. It has had no negative effect on him. He is one of the strongest players on his team, and his teammates and coach are happy to have him.
