McLean Juniors is a very good training program for the more serious pre-travel player, might be less fun than other clubs because I don’t think they have regular games. Location of practices should be a major factor though as you have plenty of time to switch clubs later.

Most of the clubs seem to have a pre academy program. Pick the one closest to you or where your child's friends are.

Arlington has the Pre and Advanced Academy programs, then later ADP if they're not ready for Travel.

SYC Developmental Academy was a good program. I actually like having kids do rec with neighborhood kids and then supplementing with extra training (Golden Boot, or club programs).

If you reside close to McLean take a look at the Juniors Program which is pre-travel for U8. I believe they looking now for interested families. However, the other suggestions of rec and winter supplementing is also sound advice.

Club closest to your house. And then join some fun indoor leagues during winter. Close to your house. I repeat, stay close to home. It's just about playing at this age.

I agree with the suggestion to find a club close to you and start with rec/house. In our case, we've had kids play house at BRYC and Vienna Youth Soccer and had good experience with both.

Then if your kid really likes it, you can delve into the next level of confusion trying to figure out the travel team leagues around here lol

Keep playing rec for the fun of it, then supplement with footskills training from people who are not volunteer dads. We like Golden Boot.

At 7 it’s hard to see a reason not to choose the program closest to you
