Soooo many variables here, they make all the difference.
Many seniors have jobs lined up and would lose the job. That sounds like a good consequence to me.
Again details, if they only failed one course and can get their boss/company to let them take it in the summer and start the job late, no harm, no foul.
Why also matters. DC gets some sort of a pass if they had a solid C going into finals and just get their butt kicked in one class due to minor senioritis.
Whereas blowing their two semester senior engineering design project is a whole different story. They set the bar and had lots of control and 10 months...
The most DCUM thought I had for some set of "right" circumstances would be to take DC to the car dealership and show them the car they wouldn't
be getting to pay for their extra semester.

Yes. Need more context. Is kid not graduating? Could they complete in the summer?

I don’t pay for failed college classes.

My kid with same diagnosis did this last spring as junior. The abrupt change of leavingcampus and life there, moving to online, some which was not thought through well by professors yet was too much. Only passed one course. Did late withdrawals for others. Much better this year, but will still be graduating late. Got a remote executive function coach which has helped too. Being supportive was the best path.

Failed every class? Or just 1?

Is this totally out of the blue? I’d be worried about a drastic change and substance abuse.

Community college or they pay for the semester via loans and if they pass I'd then pay the loans back.

Be supportive. Get kid help s/he needs (psych, financial, bureaucratic). Ideally, have kid talk with academic advisor re options, but if kid can’t handle that now, talk with them yourself and find out what kid’s options are.

I don’t know, but my son is struggling, too. I just want to say that I just try my best to be supportive, and sometimes I screw up.

My kid has ADHD and anxiety. And he knows he can’t wait to speak up if he starts sliding. In fact, he started talking to us about a problem class at midterms and ended up with a NM. He should know enough by seniotr year to not wait until Ma to mention he’s failing to someone.
He’d be responsible for using a combo of student loans (subsidized, then from us) and income to get the classes he needed to graduate (and he has taken out no loans up to this point). Unless he cut it very close, it should only be a couple. Mason and live at home and work PT is probably the most cost effective.

Failed one of their last semesters? Out of the blue? Nothing before?
Would seem odd to me and I would want to get to the bottom of it. Sure anxiety and pandemic but the goal line is right there. What does your kid say?

It’s been a WEIRD year, and the failure already happened. I would definitely skew very supportive.

Due to avoiding assignments and not studying. DX of anxiety and ADHD.
