My DH called me by his ex-wife’s name one time. He was mortified but I did not care.

It's like when you grew up with a friend named Bobby but he goes by Robert now. It's practically impossible to make the switch when you've been saying Bobby for years.

To him, it probably doesn't feel like anything other than her name. Not a special nickname only for those familiar with her. Just her name.

Don Draper still called Betty Bets after their divorce too. It means nothing.

I just call my ex his name when I speak to him. I save "dumb*ss" or "that assh*le" for other times.

It would bother me too, honestly. But then I'd have to smack myself and realize it's ok for him to have a friendship with her, he loves me.

If it makes you feel better, my ex still calls me by a nickname (non-romantic, derived from my name). I dislike it but feel like it would be worse to say something. Nothing romantic will ever happen between us.

The way husband calls ex wife leaves me feeling off sometimes. It’s similar to “Bets” for Betty. Meaning it’s not like babe or hunny, it’s a natural derivative of her name but it’s also not something 100 percent of people call her. It falls into the familiar category, someone who has known her for a long time which makes sense. I don’t know why it bothers me but it doesn’t always, other times it sounds very found. I would never bring this up because I realize it sounds crazy. But everyone once in awhile he will pick up that phone and go “hey there Bets” and it just hits different. Can anyone else relate to silly feelings in combined families?
