There are practices and games. It’s a great way for college players to get touches over the summer.

Mostly it’s a money grab so that club coaches can play while gullible college kids get to pay.

Rosters can be as big as you want for practice. Game day roster of 18 with 3 or 4 players allowed to be older than 23. Most teams are made up of college players home for the Summer and top young players currently playing in the club. Level of play is pretty solid. Just remember it’s a summer league, players come and go on vacation.

I took DD to watch Richmond vs VDA play last season. Awesome for her to see players at that level up close. I am not sure how the clubs run the programs but they are great.

My experience is the Alexandria team is not one that is come and go. They have try outs, its the same faces and its competitive.

They have rosters of 30 with players coming in and out every week

Kids aren't home long. It's just something fun to do - see friends, stay loose and play soccer. Looking at some of the rosters for a lot of these pre-pro (23) teams - everyone is welcome, everyone was invited, there are no tryouts. Your kid will be back in UVA soon and they can play hard there.

Some clubs will even sprinkle in some good HS talent to flesh out the roster and further development.

Open to any of the clubs because not tied to previous club.

Are there tryouts for it or is it only an extension of your previous club relationship?

I know Alexandria fields a competitive team that plays and its good. We go watch and its fun to see some of the younger coaches, recent club players that went on to college and they can field players above 23 but only a hand full so you get other older players as well.

Anybody have experience with this summer league? DC coming back from college was asked to play for club but not sure of quality and whether it is worth the time. Do they have practices or just games?
