Yes, I have a co-worker whose adult child (college grad) tried to get a sub job this fall, when FCPS was desperate. HR never called the applicant back...

Pension and benefits were much better for Legacy and Tier 1 compared to the plan available now. Gatehouse is political and bureaucratic. A few bad apples spoiling the image, especially at the top. What position are you applying for?

I have never met a useful person at Gatehouse and I think that work environment would be awful.

+1. With the exception of some of the IT roles, there are basically two groups of people who go to Gatehouse: the first group is almost entirely former teachers, especially SPED, who were really good at the job but burned out. I don't blame them because it's definitely a sweeter gig and they were woefully underpaid for the amount of work and crap they had to deal with on the job. The other group is the people who "failed up" as described by a PP. Gatehouse should keep the first group and fire the second.

It's disgraceful how they ignore the facilities needs of so many schools while working in a spacious, modern building. Gatehouse should be used as a school, and Brabrand and his minions should be the ones working out of trailers.

There isn't an enormous amount of respect for Gatehouse employees. The general perception is that people at Gatehouse "failed up" (i.e., many were senior administrators who weren't setting the world on fire in school-based positions, and were given administrative roles where they'd cause less damage to students).

I'm sure that's not entirely fair, but you should know that going in. Some of the more public-facing Gatehouse employees have been disasters, such as the IT head they finally had to let go last year, and the guy in charge of facilities and transportation services, who is totally incompetent. Seems like the best positions there are probably the specialist positions that don't involve dealing with the public, but only with teachers, principals and other Gatehouse employees.

Nothing. Many of us do it because we think public service is important. Figure out if that is important to you and decide.

have kids in system. hate current private sector job. pay is a match, private sector benefits way better in terms of time-off/healthcare. but FCPS has pension and some retiree health option though it sounds not as great as people want to pretend it is.

what is awesome about being an FCPS employee that I might be missing?
