OP, you'll find that the games are generally all over the place, which may be a good thing for you. We have game anywhere from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. I don't think you can find a club that guarantees no Sat a.m. games, but likely those will not be the majority of them. Just ask the club and be upfront.

What's the club going to say? No don't join? They want your money. How about you ask every player on the team that you want to join if it's OK with them if you don't attend Saturday morning games. I mean think about it. how would you feel if another player didn't attend Sunday games because it was important to him to go fishing then.

I think they need to find a club with lower level teams who won't mind this, and be upfront about it. I think you if set expectations, it will be fine.

Seek the menschen and ye shall find.

Have a look at the NCSL, but understand that while games are most often scheduled for Sundays, there are often Saturday games, too (though not necessarily morning games, so if you drive on Shabbes it could work.)

If that seems ok to you, take a close look at team culture and coaching. They really run the gamut. There will be coaches who have no interest in taking on a player who will likely not be available for key tournament games -- and there are coaches out there who are more interested in the humans they coach than in W's and L's., and will gladly consider your child if they would otherwise be a good fit for the team (and if the team would be a good fit for them.)

You'll know the menschen when you find them.

He can play on Saturday night games. Also, he can play if the entire family is there. He can play if he relates the game to work for the faith.

What better way to escape Egyptian slavery and to welcome God's deliverance than to kick somebody else's kids to the curb on Sabbath? I say go for it.

Yes, the team will survive and so will you DC’s status in the team provided it’s a roster that isn’t too large.

What happens if a child on a travel team has to opt out of a Saturday game for whatever reason (in this case, religious reasons)? Is it ok to miss a game here and there?

WE play on both Saturday and Sunday. Granted most games are Sunday but we do have some weekends where DCs play both days. Plus, tournaments are both days always.

NCSL. Just look at schedules online for your age group. This year because the season is more compact due to when spring break fell, it seems like there are more Saturday games. But I would say typically not more than 2 per season.

NCSL plays almost exclusively on Sunday. So do the other travel leagues because the rec teams play on Saturday

Thanks! I can't find any schedules and we're new to travel soccer. I don't want to have my son tryout if it's not realistic for us to join anywhere.

Not sure what you mean by Academy, but most of the travel teams around DC Metro play their games on Sunday 90% of the time.

Any classic or academy teams/games almost exclusively on Sundays? We're Jewish and our son is ready to move up to the next level of soccer but we feel conflicted about giving up religious services on Saturday morning.

Thanks!
