We already have one electric hybrid and we use the regular outlet to charge it overnight. been doing that since past 4 years. DH wants to buy anther electric car and wanted to utilize the tax credit/rebate to get an electrician to put two dedicated outlets for both the cars. With the credit etc it was still coming to $1500. I shot that down. maybe we get one outlet with the tax rebate and the second outlet can be the regular outlet that we had when we gad a fridge in the garage.
i know 2 people who got outlets put with panels etc and now they have the problem of power tripping at home. Even the so-called licensed electricians are doing a shoddy job. ir Can you imagine how difficult things will be when they start using their AC when summer comes and try and charge their cars?
I mean if you still have a pre-200amp panel you are going to have issues. It sounds like your friends cheaped out and didn't upgrade their electric service.
NP here, can you say more about this? We are planning to upgrade our electric panel to support an addition and want to make sure there is "room" to charge an EV. But I don't know what a pre200 is it what we should be looking for.
