We certainly aren’t wealthy by DCUM standards, but our income has not been impacted by the pandemic. I tip 20% on take out - a small donation to people who have been severely impacted by the pandemic. Prepandemic, I did 10% on take out and 20% on eat in.

Or they get takeout once a year and are remembering that time in April 2020 that they gave $10 on $25 of takeout, then posted on Facebook about "Support your local restaurant!"

I tip 20% on most takeout. I didn't start tipping more during the pandemic though, so I still do it.

NP, Ew this is gross. No, I just worked in the service industry for years and value the work they do to get me my food. If I didn’t want to tip i would eat my own food.

We typically tip 20% in the restaurant, occasionally less if the service is really sub-par. Boxing up takeout is not the same level of effort. We rarely tip on takeout, and my standard for the delivery person is $4-5 since the restaurants we typically order from are less than a mile from our house, so it isn't again some massive hardship to drive 3 blocks to drop off a pizza.

I am shocked that people don’t tip on delivery orders. I tip a min of $10, especially since COVID. Grocery I tip $45-55. I am so grateful for their help.

Often a server is designated to put together to go orders which can typically mean they take the call if there is one (vs. online), put everything together in containers making sure it's all correct, bag it up and then hand it off. It can be a hard job especially when it's busy as it has been for about a year now. I can't imagine why you want to stiff them a few bucks. If that's a hardship for you maybe just go to the grocery store and cook at home.

I don’t tip on take out orders

During Covid when people weren’t eating indoors I did do 20%.

Now that things are lightening up and we are doing some outdoor dining at restaurants I am doing more like 10-15% on take out tips. I’m slowly rolling it back as things get more back to normal.

I tip 20%. Although during the pandemic, DH and I have been tipping 35-45%.

Me and my husband's orders are anywhere from $20 to $50, so I always tip $2 maybe $3, which I thought was fair. Google'd out of curiosity and several links claim the to-go standard is 10% with many leaving 20%? I worked in the service industry in high school and for a year in college, so I thought I was a decent tipper. How is leaving a $5 (to $10!?) to the gal (hostess/cashier?) for every $50 order she hands off fair to normal waitresses and bartenders who have to actually work?

Honestly I assume the overwhelming majority of to-go orders don't tip 10 or 20%, they actually tip $0?
