Pigtails are not braids. Braids are ... braids. Pigtails are pigtails. Pigtail braids are a thing, but they are not the same thing.

My daughter has always had long hair. As a toddler and a preschooler, she had two braids framing her face to catch the shorter hairs in front so they didn't bother her at school.

Now they're grown out, it's more convenient to have one long braid behind, that reaches to her bum.

For her it isn't looks so much as working with the hair she has.

I do pig tails pretty often for my 2 yr old. They seem to stay in better than a ponytail. I don’t see it a lot, though. The girls in her class mostly wear a pony tail of the front section of hair at the top of their heads with the rest loose.

I think two pigtails are adorable, but I rarely do them because 1 ponytail is (albeit slightly) faster, still looks presentable and results in less whining, which with multiple children and two working parents is all I’m going for these days. For those who have the time and patience to do more elaborate hairstyles I salute you!

I do. My two-year-old has hair down past her shoulder blades and it’s an easy style to keep off her face and neat while she’s playing, especially outside. I can wind the rubber bands more tightly around two sections of hair than I can around one so it really helps secure them in place versus a single ponytail or braid.

I prefer to do 2 French braids because it actually keeps hair out of her face. Pigtails get messy super fast and aren’t conducive to a full day of play. Sometimes when her hair was half down I would do two pigtails with the half that was up.

I think they are very cute. DD is still too young but once she has hair long enough I will do pig tails. I was at an outdoor birthday party yesterday and there were 2 girls in pig tail styles.

My 5 year olds have shoulder-length hair, and full pigtails don’t stay in. We do two smaller pigtails on the top of their heads sometimes, or just one side partial ponytail. I won’t let their hair grow long enough for real pigtails because it gets tangled and messy when longer.

I used to do pigtails when my daughter was little...it was so cute! Not sure why you’re not seeing it on other kids. Maybe because one ponytail or having it down is just quicker.
