When I was in HS, one of my friends flipped a coin between two *totally* different schools: a big state school v a tiny liberal arts school in two totally different parts of the country (neither of which was where we lived). Loved her coin flip winner so much she is now a professor there! Another friend knew the Ivy she wanted to go to from day 1 of 7th grade (double legacy and her older brother ended up going there too a few years later). She absolutely hated it and transferred to a school in the city we grew up in (solid school but way less prestigious than where she could have gotten in coming straight from HS/where she transferred from). It totally worked out for both of them in the end (and the second friend blew my mind by choosing grad school at the Ivy she transferred out of and loving it the second time around). But being more sure doesn’t always mean being more right and lots of kids would be happy at many different schools. Good luck to all!

This is good advice. ^^. Thanks for the sanity check. It’s harder when your kid doesn’t have a Dream School, I think. And the elusive “fit”! Omg. Congrats to all of us for getting through this season!

Same here about coming to terms with uncertainty in life. DS chose a school that was near the bottom of my own list. But it will be fine. If it's not, that will be ok, too.

In a few years, this will all seem overblown, believe it or not.

But when you are living it, the drama feels very real (and yes, exhausting!).

VCU, Case Western and U of Rochester were in the final mix. At the end it was between CWRU and UMBC for nursing. She chose UMBC for a better "vibe" (yes, I know) and a more diverse student body and a better arts program (another interest). I am probably outing my kid with all this info! Oh well. haha. Congrats, that is a very impressive place that keeps winning national recognition. The administration of my kid's high school was blown away by hearing a presentation by UMBC's president.

Congratulations to your DD. What were her other choices? My DS is still deciding, but UMBC is one of his top choices.

Definitely the right place for her, but because we didn't start doing college visits in earnest til she got the acceptances, this month has been a sprint. She finally finished all the visits Tuesday. Then had a couple days to decide. Note to self: do not do it this way next time! hah! I'm glad she's happy/settled now. Congrats to everyone and good luck today!
