I had an issue where they couldn’t reach follicles on the side that had more mature ones. My RE didn’t give strong advice about what to do next but my OB strongly recommended removal before any more IVF cycles. (It had grown during the IVF cycle.). So I ended up having a laparoscopic myomectomy prior to trying again. If the fibroid had been smaller I might have gone for Radiofrequency ablation which can reduce the volume in half and is non invasive. But mine had already doubled in volume compared to baseline so it didn’t make sense for me since it might have still been too large and interfered with implantation.

I had a very bad retrieval cycle. Only got one egg (thank fully mature).

All through the stimming ultrasounds, the ovaries (one more so than the other) could barely be seen. The doctor said my uterus was enlarged, and the ovaries were pretty inaccessible and behind the uterus. Also, one of the ovaries has a fibroid blocking access too.

On the day of retrieval, only one ovary was accessed. It had two follicles, of which one was empty. Even though I was informed of the potential problems, and still decided to not cancel the cycle, and go ahead, it was devastating.

Has anyone else had these problems? what did you do?

I am waiting for my follow up but
1. Has anyone used Lupron to shrink the fibroid? Did it work?

2. Has anyone used Mayan Massage to re-orient or shrink the uterus/fibroids? Did it work?

3. My protocol was Gonal F - 300, Menopur - 150, and Lupron Trigger 40ml - do you think changing the protocol will increase the number of follicles?

4. Has anyone used laparoscopic retrieval instead of transvaginal for inaccessible ovaries?

My AFC was 6, AMH 1.95, and FISH 8. Age 40.
